TESTIMONIALS

  • Simone's sons got the help they needed.

“My name is Simone Wakelin and I am a mother of 2 boys. The boys are ADHD and Autistic and both have been tutored in Mathematics ranging from year 8 to year 12 level.

Both our boys quite enjoy maths and we have experienced tutoring both in face to face and online distance form. Our boys have certain challenges that our tutor has always managed in such a way that the boys are comfortable and supported. His results and efforts in building their confidence and knowledge has been exceptional…

  • We continue to have one of our boys tutored online and the other has been successful in getting into University with the assistance of our tutor.

The tutor was professional, respectful and very engaging. His calm manner and excellent communication skills have assisted our boys greatly to the point that they have requested ongoing tutoring themselves rather than us having to push them to do it. We would highly recommend this service in tutoring any student.”

  • Erica's son moved from standard to advanced maths, when the school said he couldn't!

“My two high school students have had a tutor from Wise Bird Tutoring for a number of years right through to HSC.

They provide an excellent one-on-one tutoring service that allows the boys to bring any questions they have with their course work as well as stretching them in the area that they are learning about…

  • Our tutor explains things clearly and both my boys have found being able to bring their questions to him greatly helped with understanding content.

Through tutoring (coupled with hard work) my eldest was able to move up into the advanced maths class and manage it comfortably (where the school initially told him he would have to do standard, a problem for university prerequisites).

I would highly recommend Wise Bird Tutoring (and have already) to others seeking a one-on-one tutor.”

  • Ilana's son achieves his potential

“We cannot recommend our tutor highly enough! Our son wanted to improve his grades in maths so he can study Engineering after he finishes high school at Knox.

We tried various maths tutors, but he was still struggling to achieve his potential. A good friend recommended our tutor, and we haven’t looked back! Our tutor explains mathematical concepts clearly, in a structured, meaningful and relevant manner. Our son enjoys his tutoring sessions. His understanding of mathematical concepts and his marks have improved significantly.”

  • Marcus had success as a mature-aged student.

“I had lessons as a 45-year-old Dad. The tutor was really helpful, he got me to the level I wanted to achieve. The whole experience was fantastic and I would thoroughly recommend Wise Bird Tutoring again.”

  • Jane made huge improvements!

“Our tutor from Wise Bird started tutoring Jane when she had given up. She was failing every maths test at school and had lost all motivation to keep on trying in her maths class. She was overwhelmed and kept saying she was too dumb to succeed.

Then she started working with Wise Bird Tutoring. Not only was the tutor able to explain things clearly to her, his kindness and encouragement got her believing in herself again. After a few sessions, she passed her first math test all year. Hooray! Thanks Wise Bird Tutoring!”

  • Cameron finds confidence in maths

“We started getting help from Wise Bird Tutoring in 2025 when Cameron was starting year 9 and feeling very overwhelmed. Maths had never been a strong point for him, but he quickly went from struggling to confident. We'd definitely recommend Wise Bird Tutoring for other students!”

OUR METHOD

  • Some tutors use a classroom-style approach, where a tutor delivers the same lesson to a group of students. This means students receive limited individual attention.

At Wise Bird Tutoring, our sessions are not lectures, but conversations. We engage with students personally, adapting to their unique needs and learning styles to ensure they truly understand the material. 100% of the lesson is focused on the one student.

  • We focus on deep comprehension rather than rote memorisation. Our approach helps students grasp core concepts so they can apply their knowledge to any problem, not just repeat answers they’ve seen before.

While memorisation helps a student to pass a specific upcoming test, understanding helps a student in that test and every test.

  • As a free optional extra, we provide individualised homework to help students practise what we teach. Repeating new techniques throughout the week is a great way to help students internalise the maths they’ve learnt.

We also tell parents what tasks students have been given in homework, we find this is a handy way to keep everybody in the loop.

FAQs

  • We usually go to student’s houses, but we’re also happy to meet in libraries, public places, etc.

  • Absolutely! We tailor our tutoring to suit each student’s unique learning style, including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and other learning challenges. We create a supportive, structured, and flexible learning environment that helps students stay engaged and build confidence. Check our testimonials, we get great feedback on our tutoring for all kinds of students.

We find that for any school student, the parents are the ones who know them and their learning styles best. We like to keep parents in the loop, and we encourage you to tell us what you know will work best for your child.

  • Generally, no. If you want to organise a session for two or three students who are studying the same subject, at the same year level, at the same school for a discounted rate, we’d be happy to talk to you.

We do sometimes organise 2-4 hour maths seminars on specific topics, such as how to perform well in an exam. However these are not tutoring sessions, they are meant to be small classes.
